Start with an irrigation checkGet ahead and avoid water waste. It is a good time to inspect your sprinkler system for any leaks. This is how: 1. Turn on the main irrigation valve -usually located between the City main water valve and the backflow valve. 2. Next, turn on the back flow valves -using a screwdriver, turn the two small screws clockwise to open flow. 3.Then, from the irrigation control panel, test the system. Turn to manual station option and add a couple of minutes to each zone. 4. Now, visually inspect each zone carefully for leaks, broken heads, and displaced nozzles. Time for a spring clean-upThis is the only time of the year when it is appropriate to hard trim any type of shrub or tree. When prunning dry or dead stems off a plant, leave a couple inches of stem above ground. That will make it easier to identify where the plant is. Also, avoid covering it with mulch. Crepe Myrtles should be trimmed occasionally (every couple of years). If they are closer to the house, once a year trimming is recommended. Using a high pressure washer, wash off any black scale residue on the bark of the Crepe Myrtles, or any moss on the live Oak trees. Is it time to fertilize? We are getting there! However, the grass and plants will only benefit from fertilization when they start showing signs of growth and they get fully out of dormancy. GreenER will schedule it right when the time comes.
